A 34-year old man stangled his father to death

A 34 year-old man, Olanrewaju Ewebiyi has been charged before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly killing his 80 year-old father, 

Michael Akanbi Ewebiyi by strangling him to death. The accused, a carpenter, according to the detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, allegedly killed his father over PHCN bill, on August 17, at their residence located at 56, Adeniji Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos. Source at the department told Sunday Pilot that the accused became annoyed when the deceased told him to find solution to the bill which had accumulated to N90, 000. It was gathered that the situation degeneratede into heated argument between the father and son, and in the process, the later reportedly strangled the deceased to death. The prosecutor, woman Corporal Iyobosa O., told the court that the offence committed by the accused contravenes section 221 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011. Iyobosa therefore urged the court to remand the accused through an application, pending the time the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, will issue an advice on the matter. Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Mr. Adefioye, granted the application of the prosecution and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the time the DPP will issue advice on the matter. The matter has been adjourned till November 6 awaiting the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
