A middle-aged man identified as
Oladimeji is currently wallowing in pains owing to burns on his body
after his friend Mudasiru Oyeniyi set him ablaze in Osogbo, capital of
Osun State over a dispute.
The incident which occurred at Arikalamu
area of Osogbo threw residents of the area into confusion as they kept
wondering why Oyeniyi set his friend ablaze.
It was gathered that Oyeniyi took Oladimeji’s megaphone and gave it to another person without the owners’ consent and this led to a quarrel between the friends.
The quarrel was settled by some elders in the area and Oladimeji embraced his friend without knowing that Oyeniyi was not satisfied with the settlement.
The two friends who were roommate in the apartment at Arikalamu later slept at night. Oyeniyi eventually woke up in the middle of the night and poured petrol on Oladimeji after which he set him ablaze while asleep.
Residents of the area rushed Oladimeji to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for medical treatment. He was admitted into the intensive care section at the emergency unit.
Some youths in the area attempted to lynch Oyeniyi but elders prevailed on them and urged them to take him to the police. The youths heeded the advice of the elders and Oyeniyi was handed over to the police.
The matter was investigated by detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) under Osun State Police Command.
Police later arraigned Oyeniyi before a Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo.
When his one count of attempted murder was read to Oyeniyi in the court, the police Prosecutor, Inspector Isiaka Ajadi, noted that the victim is in critical condition in hospital.
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence. The presiding magistrate, Olusola Aluko ordered that Oladimeji should be remanded in Ilesha prison custody till 22nd of October, 2013 to determine whether Oladimeji would survive before judgment would be pronounceda
